KHAMPHO THAMMAVONGXAY OHNO, MBBS, MPH, MCHS, PA-C
Background: I am a Physician assistant working in family medicine. I received my Physician assistant/MCHS and MPH in global health from University of Washington in Seattle, and my Bachelor of Medicine from Guangxi Medical University in China. Previously, I have worked for the Lao National Unexploded Ordnance training program (UXO Lao) as a medical coordinator, a AusAID project as primary health care officer in Houaphan Province (Laos), and a WHO/EPI program in Laos as a technical assistant.
Why HLI: I joined HLI because, I want to continue to be a part of the healthcare development in Laos. I also believe in education to enabling Laotians to take care of their own matters. I am interested in being part of the HLI team of volunteers who are truly passionate and go above and beyond to support the HLI organization. I grew up in Lao and graduated from high school in Vientiane. My mother, all five siblings and their families live in the Lao PDR.
R CAM MCINTYRE, MD
Background: I am a retired family physician who has had a career in health system management and have practiced family medicine and reproductive health care during most of these years. My international experience includes serving as the territorial epidemiologist for the Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands while working for the CDC, being a short-term consultant for WHO in Indonesia, and working or visiting in many low resource countries in Latin America, Africa, and Asia.
Why HLI: My interest in helping build HLI stems from a strong interest in providing service to Laotians and we felt and continue to feel that this is best accomplished by teaching others. The courses I have taught over the last eight years are reproductive health, use of the portable ultrasound, and leadership and management.
VALERIE TA, PharmD
Background: I have been working as a pharmacist for 11 years. My experience spans from retail management, medication therapy management, long term care, compounding and now home IV infusion. I received my Doctor of Pharmacy from Washington State University and my undergraduate studies from the University of Washington.
Why HLI: In 2006, I had the privilege to work for and learn from Reba as an office assistant for her private leadership training workshops. I was fortunate to witness the inception and growth of HLI from a small Seattle-based non-profit organization to a successful medical educational program in Lao PDR. HLI’s passion of building a sustainable global health system to help others has inspired me to keep up my engagement with the organization ever since. I’m proud to be able to take part in HLI and to continue supporting its wonderful mission.
